👁️ Redesigning the whole Blog (bakkyardd 2.0)

04. June 2026

BLACK AND YELLOW BLACK AND YELLOW ... This week i re-did the design of the whole website. The original design is still up and can be found via a hidden link somewhere (i wont tell you tho).

Maybe its just because ive looked at the page so much but i really couldnt stand the choice of color I had in the first version. The ~dark background, nightmode design~ felt out of place and kinda too … mainstream? Maybe it just reminded me too much of the types of projects I worked on in my mediengestalter days. Like, creative but only in the confines of the corporately acceptable, established internet look.

I mean, it still is basically the same now: I just subjectively like the dual-color, black on yellow vibe more than it was before. Now that I think about it, the thing that annoyed me probably really was mainly the black background.

In the end this is like the main good thing about designing something for the web. Its not printed, even after a deadline you can (theoretically) always make changes to anything that is already public and act like nothing ever happened and it was always planned exactly that way.

📸 Lyon and designing Posters

22. May 2026

This was the week of the trip to Lyon, my brain is full of input.

Honestly, now that it’s all over, the biggest impact on me was when Alexandre Créquer talked about how he got started, that he was just making fan posters for artists and posting them on social media, until those things led to bigger things.

And thats just like ... exactly what I was doing for the last couple of years, but then for some reason I stopped when I started studying at hfg. It just didn’t feel that productive to put so much effort into free projects and social media like that. Even though I had already gotten close to some really interesting opportunities with those social media connections (for example some marketing guy from the frauenfeld festival wanted me to make posters for the event in switzerland but then at some point sadly ghosted me :c).

So on the 8 hour train ride back from Lyon, I already started brainstorming ideas on how I could start again with those kinds of projects.

Example of a poster i did:

🎧 Making Music and Stuff

15. May 2026

This week i honestly did absolutely nothing for this website. In the last days i have been getting more and more back into my private creative projects, it just is so much fun producing over-the-top techno tracks while in hyperfocus for hours.

Nothing is uploaded yet, otherwise I would embed a nice soundcloud player here.

🤖 Using AI to Vibecode Javascript and (kinda) regretting it

09. May 2026

I really like statistics. Especially statistics about myself. So for years I have been using this website called lastfm to automatically track what music I am listening to. I have no idea if this is the best solution for that purpose but it still works for me, even though the website is kinda old and weird.

So I already had a source that automatically tracks my daily music consumption, and i really wanted to have some of that information displayed on the website. I started researching how this could be accomplished easily, but soon had to learn that lastfm scrubbed all the „widget“ options they once had from their website. The only solutions i found were random 3rd party scripts random people posted on forums in 2015 or something, but I wasnt happy with any of them (and with having to link their website in my html and being dependend on their hosting).

Soooooo after some time and consideration I folded and used chatgpt to vibecode a script for me ... I was curious if it would be easily able to give me what I imagined and if my idea was even possible :( Of course it instantly worked and I felt like I cheated myself and the system – It felt horrible. I really thought about deleting the script and just moving on to something else, but I just really fucking liked what it made for me. A nice table that used the lastfm API connection to automatically display my top artists of the last 7 days.

I thought, already being at that point, that the best solution would be to keep the script but make it my duty to learn how it was working, what the fuck it was even doing and how i could make changes myself. This took hours and i sometimes had to use chatgpt again to get to the solution of a specific problem, but now, in the end, it works. And most importantly I understand how it does this!! I don't think I could blindly rewrite the script again, but I do understand what every line does. This was like my first introduction to javascript ever and i think my use of AI was kinda okay given the circumstances, like, I made the best out of the mistake.

Now there is a display that shows my 3 most streamed songs and albums of the last 7 days, gets the artist name, the play count and even the correct cover image (which actually is really buggy even on the lastm page itself).

PS: somewhere in this process i fcked up the ASCII art at the top of the page, I have no idea how to fix it or when this even happened. But it honestly kinda looks cool that way.

PPS: It doesn't work, neocities doesn't allow the API fetch :((((((((((((

‎🪩 A Website is like an Invitiation to a House Party

04. May 2026

When I started thinking about fitting metaphors for what a personal website actually is, I had many different things in mind but always came back to the ones centered about human connection and communal thinking:

A website, for example, is like a Bücherschrank in the city. A place where people can share their stuff, a place you can go to if you are bored, want to be inspired, want to get information you wouldn’t otherwise have, or get surprised by something you didn’t expect. Like just a modern way of exploration.

Another idea is a flea market stand or a “zu verschenken” box on the street. A place a person created to share their possessions with other people, individually communicating with those people if they are interested in a tiny slice of that person's life.

A website is also like an invitation to a house party. You are being invited to a place another person occupies in their daily life, you get to see an area another person has spent much time on to shape it to their liking.

What all these things have in common is that they are spaces shaped by a person but open to others. Unpredictable, personal but public spaces built around the idea of sharing.

🚶 Taking the Internet Walk

28. April 2026

I've read the article “Taking the Internet Walk” by Spencer Chang and Kristoffer Tjalve. The internet was once supposed to be a place of connection and exchange, it was decentralized and consisted of thousands of little spaces, creating numerous niches and generating subcultures people resonated with. In the last 20 years, that seems to have changed. Now the internet feels like 6 different websites owned by 4 companies (probably owned by 2 billionaires) with the same content being reposted on all of them. Everything converges into one big mainstream. It feels like the diversity of subcultures is mostly gone.

But all the special places still exist, we just don't know where to look for them because algorithms and closed-off platforms dictate what we can find. I always have an eye out for interesting, unconventional places to find on the internet, even if it's just a random youtube channel that does things slightly different than the rest or a really specific niche subreddit. The article really demonstrated, that even outside the monopolistic platforms we all now understand as ~THE internet~ there is so much more to discover and encounter. Everyone can make a website, and many people have just done that.

One specific place mentioned in the article that really stuck with me is the midnight pub, a simulated experience of encountering a pub you have never been to alone in a big city. People just post their thoughts there, from what i’ve seen it seems to be weirdly poetic and free. Just like a random stranger drunkingly talking to you because you both went to a pub alone.

Other than that, I am just rediscovering right now, how much fun building a page from scratch can be.

An Americano, bartender--no, just tonic water. Old habits.

I've been sailing, spending time in bars other than this. Or drinking alone. Mostly alone. It's been almost two years since I set foot in here. I wasn't anywhere far, Bimini and about there, fishing. And fighting, when I could find someone to fight with.

Can't recall why I left. I mean why I left land. Stories, I think, that carried me. Life wasn't great, I thought, but when I came back there was pain and loss waiting for me. Even worse. My sandals weren't even dry. Knocked me off my feet. Not the first wave, but the ones after that. Three waves, four, maybe more than I saw. Eventually, one knocked me down.

I stopped drinking then, or right before then. Didn't realize how that would feel, what the pain would be like with nothing to dull it. It was then that I found out that I hadn't been living at all. Dull, half-experienced. It's not life. It's better without the dulling, even though I can't believe I'm saying it. Give me the pain, let me go through it, otherwise why live?

Anyway, I'm glad to be back. On land, that is. This place, I'm glad it's still here too.

You all look good. Not like the cover of a magazine, but like the faces in a country store a hundred miles from the city. And you're looking at me like I'm not from these parts. Don't blame you, I'm not. Enjoy your drinks, I'll be over here thinking.
